For many of us, we were thrown into the Shelter In Place life rather abruptly. Four weeks ago, I wasn’t sure how to make it all work with 2 full-time work from home parents, endless video meetings and 2 young, school age kids to manage. Week One, I was a HOT mess. But the journey from then to now had some wonderful discoveries that made it better.

5 of My Shelter in Place Necessities
- Leggings. My first week of SIP, I was a hot mess. Sometimes I combed my hair. I never switched out of PJs and I fully embraced the word, frumpy. Around week #2, I needed to feel alive again but I didn’t want to put jeans on. Leggings were the perfect alternative & there are 2 that I love that are available on Amazon! The first are the high waist, fleece lined leggings. They offer a little more warmth on the chillier days.
The other is a high waist, yoga pant with POCKETS! It’s like the new cargo pant! Okay, maybe not like cargo pants, but I love these. My new favorite every day pant. They’re squat-proof with a medium compression. - Facial Masks. I was sitting in my office chair with my leggings and high bun. We were going into week 3 of shelter in place & I realized I hadn’t put make-up on once. I hopped on a video call with friends and thought “wow, my skin looks good.” I wanted to continue the progress so I found myself applying a face mask while performing my IT analytics. Huh. My skin could get used to this.
- Printer. We’ve had our printer for awhile now but it collected dust more than printed anything. But with everyone either working from home or schooling from home, we’ve needed to print assignments or forms. What I love about this printer is that it’s wireless. We can print from our computers, iPads or phones. It makes it so convenient!
- Milk Frother. The hubby earns all the credit for this one. I thought it was a waste of money and would end up in the back of a cabinet somewhere. Paired with our Keurig, we’re able to enjoy our lattes without having to venture out.
- Audible.com – This one I’ve always loved but what made it unexpected was that my daughter loved it. Much to my dismay, she doesn’t have a passion for reading like I do. I think her struggles with it are a blow to her confidence and she’s afraid to make a mistake. I introduced her to audiobooks to help her pay attention to the story and to increase her exposure to vocabulary. Days 1-4, she spent 30 minutes on it each day. By Day 5, she was listening for hours at a time. She finally gets the idea of being transported into a story.
