Welcome to another installment of the 5 0n 5 project – a monthly blog circle featuring 5 photos on the 5th of every month from a talented group of photographers. This month I’m sharing images from our recent family trip to Maui. After reading my blog, I invite you to proceed through the circle to see what stories other photographers are sharing this month. The next one in the circle is Julia Frances Photography.
I’ve always called Maui the home of my heart. We got married here and visit every year to find a new adventure, create lasting memories and to refuel from that taxing daily grind. Our trips have evolved over the years as we added to our family. We don’t jump out of planes or hike the rain forests so much but it’s wonderful watching my kids explore and discovery new experiences and expand their senses. Hanging out at the beach, watching the sunset is a daily routine when we’re in beautiful Maui.
Malia is a natural water baby. The sounds of the waves always intimidate her early on but it’s amazing seeing her conquer her fears and stick her feet into the warm surf.
She loves playing a game of chase in the sand, to the ebb and flow of the water. Her energy knows no bounds and her imagination comes to life as she imagines Princess Ariel and her friends are just on the other side of the waves.
And naturally, she has to make sure the flowers on her toes don’t wash away in the water.
Maxim, on the other hand, loves the texture of the sand in his toes and hands. I watched him sit in the sand, content with his pile of beach sticks, flinging the sand to and fro around him. The sound of the surf is always enjoyed at a distance with his daddy nearby. His excited voice squeals at the sight of a distant boat passing through at sunset.
Our vacations are relaxing and idyllic – a switch from prior visits to our favorite island – but still quite a delight to my senses. I see now the story of my kids’ childhood added to our own lasting memories.

You go every year? That sounds amazing! Beautiful photos 🙂
Thankfully Hawaii is a relatively easy destination from California. 🙂 It’s definitely a family treat for us.
