My dear sweet Maxim,
It’s hard to believe that your 3rd birthday is already here. It still feels like yesterday that you pushed your way into the world. It still feels like yesterday that you were breastfeeding. But no, not anymore. In those 3 years you’ve changed into my sweet little man. You delight me with every new discovery. You melt my heart with your beautiful expression. You are a joy.
A lot of things have changed in just this last year. You’re speaking so much more now. You love to communicate either by telling us or pulling us by the finger to get you what you need. You’re mischievous. Wow are you mischievous. I can’t help but laugh when you lay your head on your sister. She tells you to stop and you walk away. Then you come back and lay on her again. You’re a quiet soul but you’re mind is always working. I can tell my man.
You don’t tackle the world head first like your sister. You’re contemplative. You’re precise. You’re so intelligent. I often watch you sitting quietly in the corner, seemingly minding your own business. But I know better. I know that your mind is engaged. I know that you’re fully aware of what everyone is doing around you. Then you surprise me by reciting letters off of random objects, knowing exactly what you’re looking at. Or I see you set-up the DVD player with your movie of choice, knowing exactly what you need to do.
From the beginning, you always had a look of wisdom in your eyes. You remind me of your Great-Lolo Batac in that way. Wise, gentle and good. You have his quiet disposition and his gentle nature. You show it in so many ways – like when you rest for the night. You reach out and rub my arm, finding comfort in the touch. When I peek in on you in the morning, I see you reach for that touch. I love how you search for that connection.
In every little thing you do, you seek a connection. You climb into my lap, put your hands on my face and give me that signature wide smile of yours. You lay next to me in bed and you say “Lay me down to sleep” and we go through your prayers together. Recently, you’ve started saying “Love you mommy”. And while it’s sweet every time you say it, I’ve noticed that when my days are hard or I display frustration, you almost always look at me and say “Love you mommy”. Heart melted!
You are my little man. I love you to the moon and back my Maxim.
Happy Birthday Sweet Boy!
