TGIF All! I’m so glad we’ve made it through the week! Today is the last day of school and the first day of Summer break. I’m excited to go into it with renewed energy.
If you’ve been following along from my previous posts, I have been diving into Always Eat After 7 PM: The Revolutionary Rule-Breaking Diet That Lets You Enjoy Huge Dinners, Desserts, and Indulgent Snacks—While Burning Fat Overnight by Joel Marion and am already enjoying the changes I’ve made. See how I “Got Started” and how I “Dived in“. At the start of this, my goal was to discover better & healthy ways to change my lifestyle.
updates + changes
One of the main things I’ve adopted is the idea of Intermittent Fasting. I’ve had very successful “cleanse” days in the past but they are a mental battle & will have me rummaging the fridge for food at the end of my day. I wanted something that made more sense.
“Going without breakfast is part of intermittent fasting (IF), also called time-restricted feeding (TRF). IF is a pattern of food consumption that cycles between fasting and eating in specific time periods. There are various ways to do it; one of the most common is the 16/8 protocol, which involves 16 hours of fasting—typically done overnight—with an 8-hour window in which to eat each day.”

This concept was so easy for me to adapt to. In the past, I’ve always had breakfast as part of my daily meals but only because I was told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast, for me, has always been the most unsatisfying meal of the day relative to my other meals. Ultimately, I found myself consuming a higher number calories with minimal nutritional value. Eliminating breakfast and using that time as my IF time has completely changed the make-up of my day. We’ve been traditionally taught to avoid carbs, have an early dinner, and never eat before bed. But the fact is, the latest scientific research shows us this earlier model is not the most ideal.
the benefits
Here are some of the positive benefits I’ve experienced in just the last couple of weeks:
- Fewer calories consumed per day
- better quality and satisfying meals in the evenings when I enjoy eating the most
- increased energy
- better sleep
- more fuel for my morning workouts
- minimal salt & sugar cravings
The recipes in the book also gave me easy & healthy meal ideas now that I stopped trying to eliminate carbs from my diet. My favorite is the Chili Loaded Baked Potato. I love enjoying my potatoes, guilt-free! Even my kids enjoy it!

Overall, I am so pleased with how this program changed my lifestyle. It is one I can see adopting for the long haul because it makes sense for me.
