Gibbs Gardens
Gibbs Gardens is a beautiful 292 acre property situated in Ball Ground, Georgia near the North Georgia Mountains. It is worth a trip out of the city, to experience the beauty and grandeur of all the gorgeous things the garden has in store. You can’t do professional photo shoots at Gibbs, but you can get some pretty fabulous pictures there.

If you live in the area, you may have seen Gibbs landscaping trucks and signs around. Yes, it’s that same Gibbs. The Gibbs family lives in residence on the property. When you visit Gibbs, you can tour the 220 acres of gardens, including the “Valley Gardens” and the “Manor House Gardens.” There is a tram that you can pay to ride around some of the property. We walked around, which was fairly easy, however, we did not go to every part of the property. A tram may be worth it, depending on your party’s walking ability. The gardens are somewhat stroller friendly. There are some paths that you can easily push a stroller on, and some paths that are more rustic and rocky.

The hours are pretty thorough, but it’s a good idea to check before you go to make sure attractions are open. Tickets are on the pricier side, in my opinion. It cost $50 for the 3 of us to go. A little bit lower price would have made us happier. You can buy a membership if you think you’ll go back more often. It only took us 45 minutes to get to Gibbs from our house. It’s an easy drive. We went on a Sunday morning with no traffic.
Check out the bloom calendar (you can pick one up when you arrive too) so that you can see what will be in bloom. During the main season, it seems like something is always in bloom.
Daffodil Season
At this time of year, late February/early March, the daffodils are the main attraction. Due to the mild winter, they bloomed out very early this year, and are now at the tail end. You should check yearly for the daffodil bloom information. These were a wonderful sight to see. There’s just something about the simplicity and vibrant color of a daffodil that makes it such a special flower. Kids love them too! You can get some really cool pictures when the daffodils are out.
During the heart of spring, you will see southern staples like azaleas, dogwoods, hydrangeas, rhododendron, etc. I can not wait to go back to check them all out. I’m a hydrangea lover!
I am not as familiar with the summer schedule. There are definitely some things that will be out in the summer, like Crepe Myrtles, so check out the summer schedule.
In the Fall, the showstopper is the Japanese gardens, including Japanese Maples. With our busy schedule, I missed this last year, but I can’t wait to check it out this year.
Gibbs has a pretty view of Oglethorpe Mountain. And there are charming bridges scattered all over the grounds. My son loves the bridges best of all!
Would you like to visit Gibbs? If you get a chance to visit, tell us about it!
Happy Spring!
