My husband & I were able to enjoy a kid-free, weekend getaway to attend a friend’s wedding (#glenngetsarose) in Norfolk, Virginia. It was the first time for both of us so we loved being able to soak it all in.
We decided to stay beachside at Virginia Beach, prior to the wedding festivities, in order to enjoy the ocean breeze & catch the sunrise on the East Coast. The Marriott provided us with ocean front views and beach access. Not too shabby! As is usually the case, we explored the food options first.
A Little Aloha
I didn’t expect to find malasadas & spam musubi while on this trip. But that’s exactly what we found at Aloha Snacks and it was delicious!
They did not disappoint. The food was flavorful and reminiscent of Hawaii. I still prefer Lenard’s Malasadas but this was indulgent & satisfying.
We also ventured into Waterman’s Surfside Grille for their signature Orange Crush & to satisfy my seafood craving. It was also a way for us to escape the sudden thunder & rain storm that opened up on us. Eeek! What a switch! While the Orange Crush was good, we took our waitress’ advice and had the Black Cherry Lime crush. That was absolutely amazing & not something I would have picked on my own. #winner I didn’t get a chance to take a photo of my seafood platter but trust me, it was delicious!
Virginia Beach, VA
I really enjoyed exploring the boardwalk at Virginia Beach. We woke up in the morning for a nice jog (in the humidity!) & checking out the statues along the way.
A Spartan course on the beach? What? Yep, we tried our hand at some of them but went on with our jogging after a few minutes.
How cute are these birds? I enjoyed watching them get a blow dry by the wind.
It was a fun weekend for us both. I loved watching the sunrise on the beach. Living on the West Coast, I’m used to seeing the sunset on the beach. This was a great thing to wake up to. Plus, we all need a weekend to decompress, feel the ocean breeze and get some Vitamin Sea, yeah?
