Mike and I had a glimpse into the future this afternoon – in the form of kids’ birthday parties.
Now, I started off watching the birthday boy and girl enjoying their celebration – from their own birthday cakes, tons of presents and the big jump house in the front yard. Pure joy – it is it’s own miracle and a great thing to witness.
But then Mike and I both – almost simultaneously – started to watch the adults as they kept an eye on their kids, made sure that they were getting a proper amount of nutritious food before the chocolate cakes, trying to add a sense of organization to the overall chaos of opening gifts and cake frosting.
I watched my friend as she wiped the blue icing off of her dyed hands, and still smiled because her face showed that she was happy that her kids were enjoying their party. And at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.
Although – while we enjoyed the warm weather of a California October – Mike and I were well aware that our little honu would always be celebrating her birthday in the middle of winter….and we had visions of Chuck E Cheese. Ack! LOL – oh well, good times. 🙂
