Hey! Yes!! I stayed up to watch the premiere at midnight 🙂
OMG, yes! Rollo was the best part for sure. He is super cute.
Alright, soooooo…I did not love either episode 1 or 2 so far. Episode 1 was better, because I was more excited for it & I felt like it followed the book pretty well. Yeah, ITA about Bonnet. He is a cutie actor, but man, I definitely hate his character. I don’t know, the episode just wasn’t great IMO. I still think Sam and Catriona are great with their acting. All of the actors are great. I think that the way the story is presented sometimes just bothers me. I HATED the forest sex scene. It was really dumb. I know Claire and Jamie get it on all the time out in nature, okay, fine. But, I just hated the scene. It was super cheesy. I liked the conversation Claire and Jamie were having. And then it got dumb with forest sex, the fire, the stupid lame tent in the background (which of course Claire and Jamie weren’t in otherwise it would’ve taken away from the bow-chicky-wow-wow element. I don’t know. I guess I’m just tired of this show being talked about all the time for being “mommy porn” and all that jazz. Whatever. I could care less about all of that. I enjoy the show for bringing to life books that I also enjoy. I hate the focus the show gets for the sex scenes. SMH! And I think the way that Claire and Jamie’s characters are portrayed just bothers me. It’s hard to explain. Like, sometimes I feel like show Jamie does things differently than book Jamie, and then his thoughts and motivations don’t come across the same way. It just feels “off” sometimes. Hard to explain!
Episode 2, I did not like at all. Again, actors were great. I like Maria Doyle K. as Jocasta. I liked all of the supporting characters, Ulysses, Phaedra, etc. Loved Young Ian and Rollo. I just did not like the way the show changed the book at all. Again, that’s what is going to bother me more than anything. I know the show doesn’t have time to show everything. And they have condensed and eliminated scenes before. I haven’t minded too much. It just bothered me more in Episode 2. The biggest thing I missed was that whole Claire does surgery on John Quincy Myers at a dinner party on the table scene! That is one of my fave scenes in the whole series! Just did not like that omission at all, and I think that could have been a really great, fun scene to do. Instead of the way they changed the whole scene with Rufus the slave. And where is Jamie’s friend, one-armed Duncan Innes? I feel like he’s a big part of the story. Maybe they will introduce him later, I don’t know. But, I felt his omission.
I guess sometimes too I get annoyed when DG defends some of these decisions, because, honestly, what else is she going to do? She is not going to second guess and talk smack about the show. I get that. I got so annoyed when a fan was asking about the Frank ring incident. And I honestly could not remember if that went down on the show like it did in the book. I think I remember Claire swallowing Jamie’s ring.
Okay, fine. But, then DG told a fan that the Frank ring was basically a McGuffin in the book anyway, so it’s not a big thing anyway. What? Come again? She spent so much time and effort in the books on that damn ring of Frank’s. And then to just say, well, just kidding, it didn’t mean squat anyway. That just rubbed me the wrong way.
I don’t know. I am hoping that the next few episodes pick up and redeem the first few. But, honestly, once so much of the story goes to Brianna and her drama and her milk-filled boobs, I shut that part of the book off. There are little things that come out of that, like Lizzie Wymess, and finding out that William Buccleigh McKenzie is the Geillis/Dougal baby, etc. I am just not looking forward to Brianna entering the story in the past. I have dreaded that all along, and still do. Oh well. It is what it is.
