Oh boy – so earlier this year, we were told that many of our current Production systems would be transitioned to third party systems. The words weren’t sad, but it made us think that the company would eventually downsize our existing IT department. The common statement was that the transition would take at least 2-3 years. Well, yesterday, the Senior VPs of IT were let go. My boss had to come in on her vacation to discuss with the staff. Of course, everyone is in a whirl now thinking we’re next. Oy!
I think I’m low enough on the totem pole to not be noticed. Plus with 20+ years with the company, I’d be an expensive ‘release’ for a severance package. But the energy has definitely shifted and the changes will be hard work. It’ll be interesting to see what 2019 brings. Ultimately – and I hesitate to put this out in the universe – I’m not going to stress over what I have no control over….but I don’t think it would be so bad if they let me go either. I love the company and the people I’ve worked with – but the identity of this company has changed so much. I feel like I’m one of the “oldies” that’s struggling to get with the program. They want the fresh, young bloods who’ll infuse a different energy to the company direction.
So we’ll see.
