That’s where GOT dropped the ball. A male interpreting Gabaldon’s work would probably convey differently on screen. A woman interpreting Martin’s story would also convey differently. GOT put the women in places of power but they all ended up cliche in the end. And as a viewer, personally, I gravitated towards specific nuances in the women that may not be seen by a male viewer.
I remember in the first season, my male co-worker said “WTF is up with her & those eggs” (while Drogo was having his way with Dany). I looked at him and said — she’s focusing on her purpose. She’s doing this for love of country & her family. It’s about personal sacrifice.
Not gonna speak for all men or women, of course. 🙂 But we do see things differently.
