GWTW – yep, my thoughts exactly.
Seasons of:
– the Prince that was promised. A young girl was burned at the stake for this “prince”!
– bringing Jon to life.
– Jon is a Targaryen – and the lie that killed thousands!
– Arya’s training
– Bran growing into his “power”
– Dany’s work across the seas
– Sansa conquering her demons and surviving her tortured life
What the hell was that all for? And Bran, sitting there with his unending smirk, knowing who was going to die and who was going to rule? Are you kidding me? In my eyes, he is JUST AS RESPONSIBLE for all of the innocent people that died because he knew Dany was going to do it. Let’s not say a word or else I might not get to rule. RME. GMAFB. Everyone was convinced that no one would bend a knee to Dany, but suuuuure, they’ll happily do it for Bran. Okay. I guess.
What I liked:
Yay for the animals. Drogon’s reaction and flying off with Dany. Ghost finally getting some love. Yay!
Yara recognizing that Dany wasn’t defined by her end.
Gendry looking mighty lordly.
TOBIAS MENZIES!
The cinematography. Despite the story, the visuals were very well done. The lighting was gorgeous.
What would have been nice with what we were given:
1. HOw about it not taking 30 minutes to watch Tyrion walk through the keep, only to find his siblings under 1 layer of brick without a bruise on their faces.
2. Jon stand up to Dany, she screams Dracarys, Jon is engulfed in fire…but stabs her from the flames because you know….HE’S A TARGARYEN. It would have at least proved to Dany that he was the true king & maybe they could have ended with her finding a little clarity at the end of all her madness and finding peace in death. Her end was expected but so badly written.
3. Greyworm fights his way to his queen only to be killed by a UnSullied masked Arya…because you know, we spent a season on her training so might as well let her get one more kill. And Greyworm reunites with Missandei in the after life.
4. All the houses witness #3, know who the true king is and he realizes the great responsibility on his shoulders…whether he keeps it or not, I don’t care. His smoldering brooding was far from sexy in this season.
5. Bran uses his ravens to search for Drogon and in the process sees the progress in the lands that Dany liberated to perhaps, you know, remind us that she wasn’t all mad – that she served a greater purpose and tried to live up to it. Her madness was not all for naught. 8 seasons, a legacy and a sacrifice. I would have preferred that over a pathetic round table of men, debating uselessly over bad wine. GMAFB.
And I get it. The North lost a lot. But so did all the other kingdoms. Sansa’s end was so mediocre. I wanted redemption for House Stark but that was such weak sauce. I even kind of like that we came full circle to Bran….but it was written SOOOOO poorly.
