Random stuff from around the house
May 24, 2017 at 3:43 pm #4189We have a cleaning service in our house today. It’s the first time we’ve actually ever used one. It’s a little unnerving. LOL We found her by referral but it’s kinda strange knowing someone is in our house while we’re away at work.
Looking forward to coming home and seeing how it all looks though. I wanted to get one really good deep clean of the house. With our schedules it’s so hard to get beyond the clutter. Hopefully it’ll motivate us to maintain it. If the difference is significant enough, I’m hoping it becomes a regular thing. Not sure Mike buys into that yet but I’m sold.
May 29, 2017 at 3:10 pm #4194That is great! I think that is a great idea to help busy families out. If I wasn’t a SAHM, there’s no way I could clean what I clean. It’s too much to do, and not enough time in a day for working and busy families. Hopefully it went well and it’s something you can do frequently to take a load off you all.
May 30, 2017 at 12:28 pm #4198It went very well! I was very happy with the result. Clean bathrooms, clean baseboards and a spotless kitchen. Mike was happy enough with it that it will be a monthly thing or at least 6 weeks.
October 24, 2017 at 8:58 am #4416This is a home complaint!…We have a broken decorative window above our foyer, that cracked several years ago probably due to settling & cold/hot weather shifts. Scott’s been putting it off, but it’s about to finally get fixed. It had to be special ordered, and then they delivered the wrong window. Sigh. Anyway, hopefully it will get done in November. In the meantime, last week we heard what we thought was a knocking at the front door. Turns out, this stupid woodpecker has started pecking into our stucco above the broken window. By Sunday, he created a huge hole. Grrrrrr! Not happy! Now, we’ve got to have this repaired too. When we hear him, we try to hustle out there and peg him with a ball. It will just take one good shot. I don’t care, honestly, when animals & critters destroy our property, I really don’t care what happens to them. In general, I like animals and believe humans should live in harmony with them. But, when we have to shell out hundreds of dollars for repairs, yeah, you better believe I just don’t care if we peg a bird with a ball. A few years ago, a bird had pecked huge holes in the stucco of my closet window. He was sitting up there one evening, I got a good shot on him, and pegged him with a ball. He never came back again!
On a better note, the bunnies haven’t been as bad this year. I’ve felt less like Elmer Fudd the past few years with the bunnies. They are crazy destructive. I’ve tried to destroy a lot of their habitat, and that’s helped keep them away. Now, I feel like Elmer Fudd with the birds!
The joys of home ownership! 🙂
November 26, 2018 at 8:00 am #5460Mary, do you love your new mantle? It is so cute! Will you get to hang stockings from it this year for Christmas?
November 26, 2018 at 12:01 pm #5462I LOVE it! Nice modern, clean look. And I finally have a place to put the stockings that makes sense. I’ll have a post up once I get everything decorated and cleaned up. Max has to move all of his toys!
I had it made from a guy in Sacramento. I was hoping for a more ‘weathered’ look. It’s a touch too shiny and bright for me, but at least my fireplace isn’t so naked. And it goes well with the tile that’s already in place.
November 30, 2018 at 5:43 am #5469So awesome that you have a place for the stockings! I swear that is the only reason I like my mantle at all. I don’t like fireplaces, at all. I didn’t even want one when we built, but we had to get it. I would rather have that wall available for furniture and even more open space. Anyhoo, I make the best of it by always having a cute picture of Rhett on the mantle, and I have my antique radio on it. I basically use it as a shelf to put a few cute things on 🙂

January 17, 2019 at 1:29 pm #5698I’m glad that our family tackled our clutter at the beginning of the year (instead of during Spring cleaning). We definitely have a hefty pile for the community garage sale and an even better pile to send out for donation. Woo hooo!
