Loved Becoming. Book picked up after she meets Barack. Definitely recommend. Former FLOTUS does a great job describing the crazy balancing act that she’s had to go through as an educated, smart wife of a politician and President.
December 23, 2018 at 4:01 am #5573I really enjoyed it too. It was a fast read for me. I enjoyed reading about Michelle’s childhood, and her story, and then how that ended up blending in with her life being the wife of a politician. She is very real, and I could totally relate to many of her stories.
January 17, 2019 at 7:14 am #5685Two BOTM suggestions for 2019 since I’m not on FB anymore.
The Library Book by Susan Orleans – it’s this months Reese Witherspoon Book Club choice. I’m picking it up next or soon.
Educated by Tara Westover – it was on Barack Obama’s 2018 list and highly rated.January 17, 2019 at 8:59 am #5686Awesome! Thanks for the suggestions Abs! I’ll have them both up as future BOTMs!
January 17, 2019 at 10:54 am #5689I really like books off of Reese’s book club. I usually enjoy the picks.
January 17, 2019 at 4:21 pm #5699I definitely check out the synopsis of all of Reese’s choices to see if I’ll like it. I’ve read a few and added others to my TBR list. I love how diverse her choices are. I like her choices more than Oprah’s for that reason.
January 18, 2019 at 8:51 am #5703Yes, I have only ever liked a handful of Oprah’s picks while I’ve enjoyed many of Reese’s.
January 21, 2019 at 11:54 am #5715There were several books on Barack’s list that piqued my interest, so I’m down for “Educated.”
January 31, 2019 at 10:11 am #5745I finished up The Forgotten Garden. The writing was really beautiful – one of those books that you can pull an endless amount of quotes from. It was a little too slow for me in the beginning but once the mystery started to unravel, it started to move. Because it time jumps to 3 different time periods, the audible version was difficult to follow. You really had to pay attention.
I found all of the characters to be pretty tragic. Eliza & Rose even more so – both victims in their own way of Adeline. Linus was a unless character with no purpose other than to explain his sister’s departure from the estate. Adeline was the villain you had to hate, and I did well. ha! Nell, I was hit or miss on her character. Her story drove the whole mystery but I struggled sympathizing with her. Eliza & Rose were far more interesting and well thought out.
Good overall story – I’d give it a 4 out of 5. Mainly for the excess of characters.
