OMG guys, the “Cobra Kai” show is really good!! We are loving it. It came out last year on YouTube, and you had to pay for it. This August, apparently you will be able to watch it for free on YouTube. Until then though, we were able to watch the first 2 episodes for free on YouTube, to make sure we liked it. And then we just paid the $10 to watch it on Amazon. It’s the first show I’ve ever paid for! Totally worth it!!
Basically, the Karate Kid story picks up in 2018. Daniel and Johnny are exactly where you imagined them to be. The show mostly follows the ups and downs of their lives, and incorporates a new generation of characters. The show uses old clips, and we love that! This is a “re-boot” done right! I was skeptical at first, thinking it would be dumb. But it’s not! It started getting really good reviews, so we re-considered spending the money to watch it.
The show is a dramedy. It’s mostly serious, but it is also funny too. For an 80’s-obsessed freak, I love all of the old references. It is so fun!
Let me just say that I am impressed with Billy Zabka’s acting. He’s doing a great job. Ralph Macchio does great too, and he is loosening up a little bit more as the episodes go on.
The show is filmed in Atlanta! Except for a few location shots. I heard they were here last year, but next time, I want to try and go find them 🙂
You might remember that my dad’s cousin, who was an actor in the 70s & 80s was a Cobra Kai in the film! He played Jimmy. So, he and several of the guys came back to appear in Season 2. He kept it under wraps, but recently shared a bunch of fun cast photos.
I am VERY picky about shows, and watch almost no contemporary shows. But, I highly recommend this show. Especially if you loved the film and love the 80s, and want to re-live a little bit of that in a fun way.
June 13, 2019 at 2:37 pm #6118I’ve been wanting to check this out! Maybe I will this weekend. 🙂
June 24, 2019 at 8:37 am #6163Totally worth it! It’s such a fun show. I am very picky about shows, so for me to like it, I’m excited about that 🙂 And it’s something Scott & I can watch together. Because most of my historical shows, he could care less about. Some places I read how bad the young actors are, and they get criticized, etc. But honestly, I think they are mostly doing a good job. I enjoy seeing younger actors in cool roles, and giving them a chance to “break out.”
We LOVE all of the old flashbacks & references! They are so fun. And they tap into Karate Kid 1, 2, and 3! Which we used to repetitively watch the entire franchise, so we were obsessed haha!
And Mary, do you remember Sean Kanan who played A.J. on GH for a while, and he was in Karate Kid part 3? OMG, I hope he gets to come back for an eppy. That would be fun. He was such an a-hole in KK3, so I’d love to see him come and do something. And remember Robin Lively, from Teen Witch, was in KK3 too? OMG, I want to see them give her a role. There is strong talk about Elisabeth Shue returning as Ally in some capacity. I feel like I’m in 1985 again haha!
June 24, 2019 at 9:55 am #6168Yes, I remember Sean Keenan & Robin Lively in KK3. LOL I remember appreciating Sean more after seeing him in the movie + GH. He’s a good actor.
June 24, 2019 at 9:55 am #6169I think the one with Hilary Swank was the only one that didn’t really pull me in. Surprised me a bit since I really like her as an actress.
June 24, 2019 at 5:57 pm #6174Yeah, me too. I didn’t like the Hilary Swank one too much.
I seriously cry in the 3rd one when they trash Mr. Miyagi’s bonsai stuff. OMG, hated those whole scenes. I wish Pat M. were still alive so he could see how popular this re-vamp is 🙂
June 25, 2019 at 9:15 am #6180Did you know that Pat M went to a local high school, here in Fairfield? He’s one of our few claims to fame. lol
June 28, 2019 at 5:07 am #6185haha! That is awesome! I remember him on the old Happy Days eppys when he played Arnold 🙂
September 10, 2019 at 8:19 am #6353I’m pretty sure you can get all of Season 1 for free right now. Definitely check it out!! I can’t wait for Season 3!
