I did want to add that LJG was sexy hot taking matters into his own hands with the young buck of a captain. Damn him for being so yummy and manly. LOL
December 17, 2017 at 5:41 pm #4632I’m sad that another season is over. I agree though, I did not love the finale. I thought that it was really rushed, and some of the ideas were cheesy, like you were describing. I just didn’t care for the structure, pacing, and overall idea of the last episode. In my opinion, when in doubt, stick to the book. When the writers veer too far away from it, that’s when I start having issues.
The Jamie/Lord John reunion is a perfect example. it was just so much better in the book, and I feel like they should have stuck with that. Why change what is already good?!? Urgh!
Voyager is my 2nd favorite book in the series, but I did not love this season as a whole. It had pockets of awesomeness, but also some ho-hum, let-down moments.
I am NOT looking forward to the next season too much. I can’t help it. I just know what’s coming with so much focus on Bree and her milk-filled breasts, and the drama with the Stephen Bonnet rapist, etc. I am curious to see who they cast as the Bonnet villain, although anyone will look inferior after Tobias. I am hoping against hope that the writers breeze through the Bree and weird-Roger-actor stuff, and keep the focus on Jamie and Claire. That might help me stomach it a little bit more.
October 29, 2018 at 5:56 am #5410It’s that time of year again! DVR is set for Outlander next Sunday. Sunday night with Outlander and Poldark back-to-back is my fave 2 hours of TV ever, of all time!
November 4, 2018 at 8:49 am #5435Did you watch the premiere? The drought is over!
My favorite part of the episode 1 – Rollo! Kidding, not kidding.Great episode to set the season. I love their family and how they brought unite them together. Stephen Bonnet wasn’t quite what I pictured. Mostly because I didn’t like him in the books and he’s pretty enough to want to like in the show. lol Much like John Grey for me, I suppose. What did you think of the premiere?
November 12, 2018 at 6:24 am #5436Hey! Yes!! I stayed up to watch the premiere at midnight 🙂
OMG, yes! Rollo was the best part for sure. He is super cute.
Alright, soooooo…I did not love either episode 1 or 2 so far. Episode 1 was better, because I was more excited for it & I felt like it followed the book pretty well. Yeah, ITA about Bonnet. He is a cutie actor, but man, I definitely hate his character. I don’t know, the episode just wasn’t great IMO. I still think Sam and Catriona are great with their acting. All of the actors are great. I think that the way the story is presented sometimes just bothers me. I HATED the forest sex scene. It was really dumb. I know Claire and Jamie get it on all the time out in nature, okay, fine. But, I just hated the scene. It was super cheesy. I liked the conversation Claire and Jamie were having. And then it got dumb with forest sex, the fire, the stupid lame tent in the background (which of course Claire and Jamie weren’t in otherwise it would’ve taken away from the bow-chicky-wow-wow element. I don’t know. I guess I’m just tired of this show being talked about all the time for being “mommy porn” and all that jazz. Whatever. I could care less about all of that. I enjoy the show for bringing to life books that I also enjoy. I hate the focus the show gets for the sex scenes. SMH! And I think the way that Claire and Jamie’s characters are portrayed just bothers me. It’s hard to explain. Like, sometimes I feel like show Jamie does things differently than book Jamie, and then his thoughts and motivations don’t come across the same way. It just feels “off” sometimes. Hard to explain!
Episode 2, I did not like at all. Again, actors were great. I like Maria Doyle K. as Jocasta. I liked all of the supporting characters, Ulysses, Phaedra, etc. Loved Young Ian and Rollo. I just did not like the way the show changed the book at all. Again, that’s what is going to bother me more than anything. I know the show doesn’t have time to show everything. And they have condensed and eliminated scenes before. I haven’t minded too much. It just bothered me more in Episode 2. The biggest thing I missed was that whole Claire does surgery on John Quincy Myers at a dinner party on the table scene! That is one of my fave scenes in the whole series! Just did not like that omission at all, and I think that could have been a really great, fun scene to do. Instead of the way they changed the whole scene with Rufus the slave. And where is Jamie’s friend, one-armed Duncan Innes? I feel like he’s a big part of the story. Maybe they will introduce him later, I don’t know. But, I felt his omission.
I guess sometimes too I get annoyed when DG defends some of these decisions, because, honestly, what else is she going to do? She is not going to second guess and talk smack about the show. I get that. I got so annoyed when a fan was asking about the Frank ring incident. And I honestly could not remember if that went down on the show like it did in the book. I think I remember Claire swallowing Jamie’s ring.
Okay, fine. But, then DG told a fan that the Frank ring was basically a McGuffin in the book anyway, so it’s not a big thing anyway. What? Come again? She spent so much time and effort in the books on that damn ring of Frank’s. And then to just say, well, just kidding, it didn’t mean squat anyway. That just rubbed me the wrong way.I don’t know. I am hoping that the next few episodes pick up and redeem the first few. But, honestly, once so much of the story goes to Brianna and her drama and her milk-filled boobs, I shut that part of the book off. There are little things that come out of that, like Lizzie Wymess, and finding out that William Buccleigh McKenzie is the Geillis/Dougal baby, etc. I am just not looking forward to Brianna entering the story in the past. I have dreaded that all along, and still do. Oh well. It is what it is.
November 13, 2018 at 12:34 pm #5440LMAO at ‘the stupid lame tent’ because I totally thought the same thing. What kind of protection did that even provide.
I agree about that scene though – it felt completely thrown in there to meet the sex quota. I know the show has rap for being “mommy porn” but all the other great love scenes have had excellent timing and flowed with the story.I liked both episodes though – mostly because they’re more tame, I guess. Everything about Claire and Jamie is so dramatic so I like that we have these episodes that paint a picture of those times. Ian’s face as he witnessed America’s horrors….that got to me. I’ve always loved his character so seeing him absorb life in North Carolina was one of my favorite scenes especially since they’ve been displaced in their own country….it was interesting to see him make that connection in America.
I’m far removed from the book and had debated re-reading it. I may have to after all because I don’t remember a lot of details.
November 14, 2018 at 5:54 am #5447ITA Mary. I too am also far removed from the book. It’s been many years since I read DOA. I wish I had time to re-read it, I know that I don’t though.
ITA too about the sex scene quota thing. Hit the nail on the head. Cuz that’s how I felt, like it was just kind of thrown in to meet the quota. Many of their sex scenes have been good and filmed well and match how I pictured them from the book. I just hate the random stuff that the writers throw in sometimes.
Young Ian was probably my fave part of Episode 2. I enjoyed his convo with John Q Myers, and his talking about the natives, and his dealings with Rollo. I am interested in how they will portray his going to live with the natives, and his time being absent from the series. I would love for them to keep John Bell and let him age like Young Ian does in the books. I don’t want a re-cast after his absence.
I am looking forward to when John Grey appears with Willie. I love that stuff. I want to say it’s after Brianna goes back in time, so I guess it may be the 2nd half of the season.
This sounds really nit-picky, but hey, that’s what I do with the show sometimes. I really wished they had filmed in North Carolina! There is a burgeoning film industry close by here in ATL and also in North Carolina. I just wish they had made it work. We know that the story is in America from here on out, from North Carolina to the colony cities up north. I just wish they would shoot here. It’s taking away from the feel of it for me I guess. From what I read, I think they even had all these Native American actors go to Scotland for the filming. What the hell? Just film here! I can’t believe it’s that much more costly. Than sending Natives over, than all the CGI they need to do. If they don’t film in some of the historical colonial places for the future books, that’s just going to be weird. They filmed in South Africa for the West Indies. It’s not like they can’t go on location somewhere.
Case in point, Mercy Street. This show was cancelled after 2 seasons, but it took place in Civil War era Virginia. And they filmed in that area, and it looked damn good and so authentic.
November 26, 2018 at 7:57 am #5459Episode 4 — meh! Just didn’t love it. I did not care for the changes. Just not loving this season. I’m telling you, once the books go away from Scotland, my love for them goes down. I think I am feeling the same way about the show.
November 26, 2018 at 12:00 pm #5461Awwww, yeah, I liked episode 4. I thought it was gaining traction. I did NOT like episode 3.
November 30, 2018 at 5:46 am #5470I like the parts where Claire and Jamie are establishing their house, and their homestead, and encountering the Native Americans and all of the colorful characters that come along in the story. I hate all that being interrupted by the Bree & Roger crap.
I still say, “where is Duncan Innes?” He better show up somehow!
