“old school” – dang – I remember laughing when she was riding in the car with Khalil asking him why he listened to this old stuff. I was like “Maaaan, she better not be referrin’ to Tupac!”… and then he went into T.H.U.G L.I.F.E and dang, they were referrin’ to Tupac. LOL
Just goes to show how relevant his music was and still is. So you hang on to that coolness card. Tupac will be iconic 50 years from now. That man is legend. 🙂
October 24, 2018 at 9:52 am #5395I watched the movie last night with my sister and really liked it. Very well done – though the casting for Chris, King and Seven’s mom were a miss, IMO. Probably because I had envisioned them in my head in completely different ways.
But they really brought the community and family dynamic to life in the film. The lessons they had to teach their kids and how that resonated in their daily lives was so impactful. I loved the actress that played Starr. And every time I saw Khalil with his smile, I got teary-eyed. They dramatized it enough to be impactful – the ending had me so tense.
I thought it also did a good job of introducing both points of views. Uncle Carlos explaining what questions goes through a cop’s mind, what scenarios they have to run through and the importance of following instructions to a T. But him also saying that if the situation had been different – a different neighborhood, a different race – that even he would react differently was very true.
I know this topic is incredibly polarizing. I don’t see it so black and white but I do believe that there needs to be more accountability for the lives that have been lost. I don’t believe that the imperfections in a person’s character should deprive him/her of justice. I also believe that our law enforcement officers have a very hard job and are at risk every day but that doesn’t mean they’re not accountable when they handle something the wrong way.
