Ugh – the flu has been going around the office the last couple of weeks. I thought I had escaped it since I was out of the office most of the holidays. But no luck. After the first week, I felt it coming on and it slammed into me over the weekend. It’s been so long since I’ve had the flu that I’d forgotten how truly awful it is.
Thankfully it’s gone and now I’m just dealing with cold symptoms. Yay! Praying that the kids are spared from it.
January 17, 2018 at 9:24 am #4734The last week has been a mess. On the heels of getting sick, I had to deal with a huge family drama that completely threw us for a tailspin. Now my plans for the beginning of the year are thrown off and my focus is all over the place. Life. It has a really crazy way of turning on a dime.
January 22, 2018 at 10:52 am #4736Dang Mary! You and I have both not had a great start to the year. Here’s hoping the rest of 2018 improves!
I am glad you are feeling better. Feel so bad when people get the flu, especially kids. I know several adults and several kids who have it now, and all we can do is keep our fingers crossed that we don’t get it.
Hugs to you!

*peaks in..looks around…waves*
I know, I know. It’s been awhile. I keep meaning to stop by, say hi and all that. Then I get distracted or something else comes up and I think I’ll check in later. Later becomes lots later and then tomorrow and so on and so forth. Sigh.
On top of that, I’m now on my 3rd cold of the season. I’ve decided I’m no longer hanging out with my siblings during the holidays. My sister was home at Thanksgiving and brought with her some kind of cold/sinus thing that she passed on to me. That one hung on for a couple of weeks. Was finally just over that when Christmas rolled in and my brother thought he should share his cold (I’m pretty sure I got his cold because my immune system was just recovered). Was finally back on track – for almost two weeks – and now I’ve got another cold. Pretty sure this one is courtesy of my dad. Mom swears he’s like dealing with a 4yr old…constantly telling him to cough into his elbow, wash his hands and sing the alphabet song. And she’s threatened to not allow him to do winter boy scout stuff (after all these years, I still don’t get the camping in the snow thing they do) if he brings anything else home. Oh and with this cold? I’m loosing my voice. I’m on a no speaking unless absolutely necessary rule at work today. A simple “good morning” (all squeaky and cracking) to my boss when he got to the office had him stopping to ask if I was ok.
Sorry things didn’t work out to meet up when you were in Michigan, Mary. But when the snow arrived, I was happy to not be traveling. We may deal with snow a lot, but the first of the season always comes with a learning curve. LOL at you not being cut out for Midwest cold. It wasn’t that cold yet back in November. I think we went more than 2 weeks where the temp didn’t get above 20° and that was without the horrible wind chill. Glad to hear you’re feeling better and hope the family drama has calmed down.
Hope everyone else around here is doing well.
January 29, 2018 at 9:08 am #4745BK is here! 🙂
I’m always happy to see an old “face” pop in so later is MUUUUUCH better than never. 🙂
Ugh – I’d keep my kids in a sealed room if I could because they bring stuff in and out of our house. I hope you stay healthy as winter goes on. It’s been rough this season, for sure.I’m bummed we didn’t get to meet up but that would have been quite a trek for you. And it snowed! There will be a next time, I’m sure. 🙂
January 29, 2018 at 10:41 am #4747Hi Kat! Feel better soon! This has been a rough cold & flu season for so many people. Glad you stopped in to say Hi. Hope you’re getting to do some reading.
I had to go pick up Rhett sick from school today. Ugh! I’m trying not to panic that it is flu, but it’s been so bad across the country. He’s not too bad right now. We’ll see what tonight & tomorrow bring. This January has been horrible! I am so far behind on things I need to do, and every time I think I can get a handle on things, Rhett or I are sick, or school is cancelled.
Sounds like we’re all in the same boat!
January 30, 2018 at 5:34 pm #4765Seems like Rhett just has a regular old cold. The fever isn’t terrible, just makes him feel crummy. None of the other symptoms are too bad. Not as bad as his upper respiratory virus from October. Scott & I are already feeling it a little bit, so hopefully it’s not too bad for either of us.
Now, if only Rhett could coordinate his sick days with the school cancellation days, that would be great! 🙂
February 13, 2018 at 6:59 am #4830So, I am now super-sick with that crazy re-occurring undiagnosed illness I have had in the past. Same thing every time. I got Rhett’s cold, but it wasn’t even that bad. I only felt yucky cold symptoms for a few days. Then, the crazy swelling started in my legs. My lower body is swelled up like crazy. I have been unable to walk, and am in a great deal of pain, for over 1 week. Revisited the allergy doc yesterday, who says he can’t help me, and recommended a cardiovascular doc. I couldn’t get in somewhere until tomorrow. But, I am skeptical that they will help or figure any of this out. I have been bounced around with no answers for 5 years, since this first started in 2013. It has been very hard on me and everyone, as I struggle to do literally anything, and am in a lot of pain on top of that.
And, to add insult to injury, we are supposed to leave for Hawaii on Saturday for Rhett’s week off next week. It is not looking good, and we do have traveller’s insurance and all that. But, I have been crying my eyes out for a week about this whole thing. We haven’t even told Rhett we might not be able to go. He will be devastated.
I am doing my best to get well this week, but it’s been a long, hard road.
I am still looking forward to reading the Feb BOTM, but otherwise, I’ll be taking a break from here for a while, until life is back on track.
February 13, 2018 at 12:39 pm #4831Gosh darn it! I was really worried about that happening when the cold started making it’s move. I was hoping you’d be spared from it or even better …. that you wouldn’t have any more recurrences.
Could it be neurological? Why cardiovascular?
How incredibly frustrating! I’m so sorry that you’re going through this again. Not having the reason for it just compounds it even more. Ugh! Please keep me updated! I’ll check in on you!
February 26, 2018 at 11:00 am #4840I am going to see an infectious disease specialist in a few weeks. Unfortunately (and fortunately), I am currently all better. So, hopefully, they can give me some answers based on my medical journal and the photos I took. My swelling was gone before we left for Maui. I had a little leftover pain in my legs, but we didn’t do anything too strenuous on the trip. I am all better now. Definitely frustrating to be a walking medical mystery! I am going in for a full cardio workup, including a stress test, just so they can make sure, again, that it is not heart failure related. Sometimes, when they see swelling, they get concerned about heart failure. But, that doesn’t seem to be what is happening to me.
