Good for you Mary. Boundaries are a good thing, and hopefully you’ll feel less stress.
May 29, 2018 at 11:54 am #5054Attended Bottlerock for the first time and got to see Bruno Mars again. sigh. So much fun! The food was AMAZING and all of the wineries were out in full force. Such a fun experience. I wish I could have attended Day 2 when The Killers performed. The acts were really great this year.
But man am I tired and sun burned
June 7, 2018 at 11:40 am #5076Awesome! Sounds like a fun thing to do. I remember you mentioning this a while back, because my ears perked up at The Killers! 🙂 They are my fave band of today, so that would have been awesome to see them.
We are just in summer vacation mode here, doing what we do, rolling how we roll. I’m enjoying my time with Rhett (mostly, except when he drives me crazy). His summer baseball team ends tonight, so we will have a baseball break until August, which will be nice. He’s taking some private lessons to work on specific things, so he likes that a lot. He’s doing piano as usual. So, definitely a more laid back schedule for us. Next week, he will attend Art Camp until 12:00 each day, so that will be nice for me to get some stuff done. I always start working on his school supply list then, because I often have to order a bunch of stuff online. Nothing too exciting otherwise.
June 20, 2018 at 9:15 pm #5092My dad has left for the Philippines and amid the feelings of guilt and sadness, I discovered more lies from him. So i think it’s safe to say that he’s burned his last bridge with me. I’m incredibly disappointed but at least I’ve rid myself of any feelings of guilt.
Summer is kind of crazy right now and I’m kind of overwhelmed. Hoping it starts to calm down a little. Why can’t I just travel and take photos?
June 29, 2018 at 7:21 am #5104Awww, sorry Mary. Families are both a blessing, and a big pain-in-the-butt at times!
August 23, 2018 at 1:39 pm #5199Oy, I have one kid sick which made me miss another day of work after JUST coming back from a trip. Great.
In the meantime, I’ve learned that our VP of IT announced that the company has decided to outsource all of our IT programs. Hmmmm…..no immediate issues for employment but definitely a change to how things will work, who we will work with and even possible job loss at some point.I had made the decision to cut back on a lot of things after we got back from our vacation. The trip really showed me how fast time was going and that I really needed to enjoy the time I had with the kids. So I made the decision to put away my dreams of running my own photography business full time, scale back and focus on the job that was paying the bills and the job that – bottom line – wasn’t all that bad.
Sometimes the universe decides to work things out and I may be able to take this opportunity to:
1) fit work into my kids schedules
2) do what it is I really want to do
3) have more time to simply be a wife and a momBlessing in disguise? Maybe. We’ll see how things pan out.
August 28, 2018 at 6:09 am #5201Wow Mary, lots of changes going on for you. Do you think those changes at work will mean that you can work from home more in the future? I am glad you were able to decide what is right for you. It is a good feeling to make decisions and then work toward those goals. The great thing is that you will be able to always use your talent for photography where it matters most, for yourself and for your family. It will be so nice that you can continue to do what you love in the most important parts of your life, family. The photos you take will always be something you all treasure forever.
Hope the kids are all feeling better.
Rhett has made it through the first month sick-free so far. But we are surrounded by sickness at school, work, baseball, etc. Everyone we know is sick in some way or another.
Scott is the first to go down here, which is rare. It’s always me & Rhett. Scott got sick from people at work, so he started battling a cold yesterday. And of course because he doesn’t work from home, he goes in to work regardless. I told him not to breathe on anyone!
August 28, 2018 at 1:13 pm #5211Well, the changes will have some impact. I’m going to wait out the year to see how many people leave. I know many are going to look for new jobs. If I’m let go, then at least I have the severance package. Having been here almost 20 years, it would be a good package. If I stay, then all indications point that it will be a lot of hard work. Increase workload – decreased staffing. So long as I’m not taking home work or crying at the end of each day, then I’ll push through it. In the meantime, Mike and I will re-evaluate our finances to see how it’ll be if I am laid off. Plan B is pretty attractive being able to be with the kids and pursue photography the way I want.
October 22, 2018 at 5:56 am #5391How did your yard sale go Mary? Did you get rid of some stuff? Did the kids work the sale? Are you guys getting more serious about moving to a new house in 2019?
October 22, 2018 at 10:36 am #5392The yard sale went well. We got rid of about 60% of the stuff. The rest we dropped off as a donation. The kids made about $25.00 each. Malia is my little saver and it’s helped her look through her things and figure out what she doesn’t want or use. We marked all of her stuff with pink price stickers and at the end of the sale, she added all the pink stickers up to figure out how much she made.
I was thrilled to get rid of some of our bigger ticket backyard stuff. I had a beautiful teak dining set that I had envisioned us having summer dinners out on the patio. But with allergies and asthma, that was a pipe dream. LOL Now we have more space for a nice sitting area using the existing furniture we have. I also cleared out my home studio. With me focusing my efforts on specific photo products, I didn’t need a lot of the props and gadgets. And since I switched from Bamboo Leaf Studios to Maryrose Serac Photography, I got rid of a lot of marketing stuff. Now that room has more space.
Not sure about moving. The house meets our immediate needs. However, if the bigger home model comes up for sale in our neighborhood then I think Mike and I would be happy to have that. It checks off most of the items on my wish list and will give us the space we need.
