Our family enjoys a nice weekend of camping. This year we ventured beyond our traditional Bullard’s Bar location and explored Gualala River Redwood Park along the Northern California Coastline.
The drive took us along the famed California coastline. The vistas were simply gorgeous as the waves broke against the jagged cliffs & the vegetation was lush and green from the moist, coastal air. If you’re prone to car sickness, be prepared for the windy roads! There is no straight path to Gualala.

The campgrounds are awesome for families with children. The campsites are between the towering redwood trees with easy access to the Gualala River. Take the kids on a nature hike to the Cathedral Trees or to explore the miles of beach along the river. We loved that the waters were very calm so the kids could soak up the sun on the beach or floating in a raft.

The campsites have a picnic table, electricity & water and a fire ring – perfect for roasting marshmallows! There are also bathrooms & showers on site, right next to the camp store. The play area was perfect for all ages as they boasted ping pong tables, bocci ball, horse shoes, swings & slides. Be sure to explore the vegetation – you may find a banana slug hanging around.
