She was sitting in our favorite room in the house – the family room. The afternoon sun always illuminates the room with light as the sun sets behind the fence in our backyard. I tend to keep my camera nearby when we’re in this room because I never know when I’ll catch the light just right as the kids go about their daily routine.
This time the light caught on the gentle curl of Malia’s growing hair. She’d spent the first couple of years with a near bald head so I always had it on my checklist to capture her hair as it grew out. I wanted to capture those hair wisps at the base of her head and the slight curl to her fine hair.
It’s these little details that I love to capture. Naturally, I love capturing their crazy expressions and gentle smiles, but the small details like her hair growing are fleeting. She’s grown up so quickly and has changed so much in her 4 years.
What kind of details remind you of your kids’ childhood?
