I admit, I blinked when my daughter asked me to take her hiking. It just never occurred to me that this is something she would enjoy. She’s is in a place of discovery right now & the summer introduced her to many activities that pushed her limits. I think it woke something up in her & I love it. When I asked her why she wanted to go hiking, he said she wanted to get stronger legs so she could be a stronger swimmer. Go girl!
I indulged in her request and took her to one of my favorite local spots – Lagoon Valley/Pena Adobe in Vacaville Ca. In my marathon running days, I used to hike to the towers to help build up my endurance. The varying degrees of elevation was a little bit of a surprise for her. I probably should have taken her on one of the more scenic & easier trails for her first excursion but I haven’t explored them solo so we took the familiar route.
She was such a trooper! We didn’t make it to the top tower but got much farther than I thought she would. She’s still on the fence if she’ll do this particular hike again but she appreciated the ice cream treat afterwards.
