A couple of years ago, I made a point to stop taking on new clients in the weeks leading up to the holidays. I know I work hard. My kids see it all the time and recognize mommy’s “computer time” as mommy at work.
It’s important to me to free up my time on a regular basis. At this point, I know that working is something I have to do. It’s something ingrained in me. But if 2017 taught me anything, it was to carve out time for myself and for my family. Looking back on this holiday, I’m so grateful for the time I got to spend with my family. Here are just some of the highlights from the holidays.
Our Holiday 2017
- Pajamas at Jelly Belly. It’s become one of our family traditions to visit Santa at the Jelly Belly Factory. The kids, as well as mom and dad, put on our matching PJs and enjoy a morning in candy land. Daddy wasn’t so thrilled with the Disney pajamas but he was a good sport about it. We also take the traditional picture in front of the tree.
- New Traditions. This year we introduced Elf on a Shelf to the household. Rosy and Fred Elf made their appearance the week of Christmas to greet the kids every morning. The joy and excitement were completely heart warming. The happy-weepy mom in me was completely thrilled to witness their excitement. They were definitely moments that will live in my memory for years to come.
- Craft Night with the PTO. Now that I’ve got a child in elementary school, we were excited to participate in some of the holiday activities hosted at the school.
- Good eating & good laughs. My dad ushered in his amazing prime rib and the dinner table was laden with food to last for days. We indulged and lived it up.
Christmas was never one of my favorite holidays. I liked it well enough. For years it felt so commercial and so excessive. That has changed so much the last couple of years as my husband and I have worked hard to encourage the magic of Christmas. It’s become such a wonderful time for me to appreciate the blessings given to me and to enjoy the beauty of family.
