I cherish my old holiday traditions but making new ones with the family are so much fun too.
One of our favorite things to do during the holiday season is simply take a drive around town, looking at the various displays of holiday lights.
I love hearing the squeals of delight as they see an approaching house, covered in lights. I love their excitement as they recognize Santa, Mickey or Olaf sitting on a rooftop or front yard.
As Christmas Day approaches, we take a drive to Candy Cane Lane in neighboring Vacaville, California to view a neighborhood filled with beautiful holiday displays. We park the car around the corner and stroll down the streets, marveling at the beautiful displays.
Visit Candy Cane Lane – Vacaville, CA
The neighbors on this street are incredible. You can stop by and grab a candy cane from one of the elves. Share your holiday joy with a greeting as the “elves” warm their hands by the fire pits set up in driveways. If you choose to drive through the neighborhood, turn off your lights for optimal viewing. Drive slowly, of course, to avoid any child that may wander into the streets in excitement.
Temperatures can get to be in the 20s on the colder, winter days. Make sure your child is bundled up in layers and cold weather accessories. Bring a thermos of hot chocolate to add to the experience as you pull your kids in a wagon (or sleigh). Lastly, be kind to the neighbors. There is a lot of foot and automobile traffic in the area but they welcome people warmly into their neighborhood.
Happy Holidays!
