The fires have been raging in California for a week now. This weekend has been a worse case scenario with the Diablo Winds hitting the area with so much velocity. The winds came just as predicted at speeds up to 90+ mph, carrying the hot embers well beyond fire lines and creating new fires in new locations. Thankfully we’ve been pretty safe but we’re on edge, knowing that in these conditions, fires will sprout anywhere & will spread quickly.
In times like this we stay home. I took to the kitchen and decided to give myself a mental break from the twitter updates and community news feeds. I took one look at the bulging bag of pomegranates from my mom’s garden & decided to bust them open and start taking photos. Why not? A beautiful subject that listens to what you say? The perfect client!

Photos were taken in my kitchen with my Canon 5D Mark II & Sigma Art 35mm lens. Using the window for my light source, I used black poster board to help absorb some of the light. Here’s a pullback of my workspace.

I adjusted my poster boards to get the light to how I wanted it and to diffuse the brighter parts of the composition.
