Seeing my mother-in-law in a photograph can be as rare as finding the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. Being a little camera shy, I’m hard pressed to capture her in photos with her grandchildren. It’s been important for me, however, to get snapshots of her time with them as she loves them so completely. I want those moments to be saved for years to come.
So when she’s not cooperating with me as I direct a shot, I try to capture the interactive moments. She may avoid all eye contact with the camera but the image still captures a moment between Lola and Grandson. My son is out of focus in this image, but for me, it was more important for me to capture her in the moment. Sometimes it’s the in-between moments that tell a sweeter story. I love seeing her classic pearl earrings that she always wears to a party and how content he is being held in her arms, simply playing with her necklace.
