Malia has been showing more signs of stranger anxiety over the last couple of weeks. Whether its someone cooing at her at the store or a relative wanting to hold her, she’s quick to let me (and everyone else) know that she’s feeling on edge.
This, unfortunately, has been consistently apparent with my god-son. Their initial encounter ,when she was a few months old, was positive for the most part, but she clearly wasn’t as comfortable as she normally is. We’re not completely sure why. And now we’re wondering if perhaps that moment has stuck in her mind. Now whenever she sees him, she panics and clings…searching for a person she feels is her safe haven. And there’s almost no consoling her if he’s trying to interact with her.
I’m bummed! He wants so badly to play and hold her, but she just refuses. 🙁 Even the sound of his voice will wake her up from a nap and send her into distress.
Any suggestions as to how we can change her behavior around him? I feel awful because he’s really sweet with her.
