It’s not often we decide to stay home the entire weekend. Despite the gear and packing I need to do for a day excursion, I often cringe at the idea of having 2 babies couped up at home, ransacking the house.
I’m slowly starting to turn over a new leaf and trying to find ways to utilize our space, engage the kids in activities around the house and stay home a little more. I find that being home actually makes me feel like I had a full weekend away from work; a full weekend with my family. It’s also a much more budget friendly option.
My daughter loves to participate in what mommy and daddy are doing. The other morning, Daddy pulled out the car wash supplies and decided to clean the cars. As she walked over to check out what he was doing, I found myself stepping forward to stop her. Then it dawned on me – why not? Go ahead and let her get wet, play with the soap and sponges, enjoy the fresh air and engage her senses. At least then I could actually vacuum inside the house with a munchkin hanging onto my leg.
She absolutely enjoyed herself. She was able to satisfy her curiosity. She was able to explore, test the range of her senses and get dirty. What kid wouldn’t love that? Plus, time spent with mommy or daddy is time well spent. That’s a pretty good way to spend the day and the cars got a nice cleaning.
What kinds of activities do you enjoy doing with your kids?
