I fall into that category. The category that Valentine’s day is unnecessary. If I’m going to celebrate the love of my life – it’s going to be on our anniversary. It’s just far too commercial for me to put that much effort into Valentine’s day – it takes the personal, sentimental part away for me.
The day, however, has evolved for me the last couple of years. Now that I have kids, I like to make this day a little special. Not because I don’t show them I love them every day. I love nothing more than to hug them close every chance I get and tell them that I love them. They’re definitely not lacking there.
But as a mother, I worry a great deal about them eating healthy, staying on schedule, keeping them on a routine, etc etc. Sometimes it’s nice for them to have a break from that. So for Valentine’s day, I like to get the little cylinder of m&m’s or maybe a sugar cookie…and for a day, I’ll just let them enjoy the treat because it makes them happy. Or I leave work a little early so that we get an extra visit to the park. Those moments make my Valentine’s day. 🙂
And come on? I just can’t think of a more handsome man to spend my day with. And who doesn’t love butterfly kisses? Happy Valentine’s Day!
