In my continued effort to live a stronger and healthier lifestyle, I decided to try out a local yoga studio. I was lucky enough to snag a Living Social coupon for a month of unlimited yoga classes at Yoga Core Fit.
This was day one.
Needless to say, I’m going to need at least a month to see any improvement in my flexibility and strength. The studio, however, was wonderful. The instructor was patient. She provided plenty of feedback on my form, alternatives to the movements for my level and was friendly throughout. The studio was lovely. I loved the decor – the photo above was just one of the beautiful framed artwork seen throughout the studio. The ambiance was tranquil and helped clear the mind – even when I’m trying desperately to get into one of the many positions that don’t feel at all normal!
The studio comes well stocked with clean mats, straps, blocks and towels. I came with my own gear (which has only collected dust over the last couple of years), but it was nice to know that equipment was available for use. There was plenty of water and herbal tea. During our cool down period, we were even treated to herb-infused towels to cover our eyes. I want to say they were infused with lavendar, but I’m not absolutely certain.
The class I took was the Gentle Hatha Flow Yoga. Here is the description from their website:
Gentle Hatha Flow Yoga
Slower movements, simpler poses, and modifications are encouraged. This is a wonderful class for beginners, or for those who want a slower pace with more instruction. This is also a really nice way to gently introduce yourself to flow yoga.
It states that it was a beginner class but it was still quite a workout. I was sweating throughout and the next day, my entire body was sore from the workout. It was definitely a total body effort.
I’ll be trying one of the Yin-Yang Classes next.
Yin-Yang Harmony Yoga
This class provides a harmonic balanced practice of both Yin and Yang styles of yoga. The first half of the class is Yang Yoga, often referred to as Vinyasa Yoga, a more active, dynamic style that strengthens and invigorates. The second half of the class is Yin Yoga, where long-held passive poses open the body to more flexibility and chi flow.
