I’ve never been a huge fan of Summer. I’ve been more of a Fall girl. The season, however, is growing on me. The kids enjoy the outdoors. They spend time at the pool. We spend time with family.
I know it’s only August but here are my 5 Favorite Moments of Summer.
5 Favorite Moments of Summer
Swimming! Both of my kids love being in the water. They both have overcome their initial fears and are more comfortable in the water with each passing day. I can’t wait to see them move on to swimming without the life vests. Not yet though. Mommy still needs a little security when it comes to that.
Ice cream dates. We all scream for ice cream! I adore seeing my son tackle his ice cream cones with such relish. This image of him covered in melted ice cream defines childhood summers for me.
Fruit picking. Whether it is in our backyard or a local orchard, fruit picking has been one of my favorite summer activities this year. It gives me nostalgia for my own childhood when my parents would pick the fruit off of the trees in my dad’s garden. Or they would drive us to the orchard to join the other families for some cherry picking. It was so fun to introduce my kids to that pastime.
Growing my Garden. Speaking of garden, I finally have one! I got to harvest from it. I love the smell and taste of fresh basil. That’s my favorite plant so far. I love the white eggplant that’s growing in abundance. I love the zucchini and the peppers. It was such a wonderful accomplishment to grow my modest, little garden.
The Annual Family Camping Trip. Every year we head north to Bullard’s Bar, a great reservoir that provides wonderful activities and sites. It was bittersweet this year without our dear friend, Karen, but she was constantly in our thoughts.
To top off our summer, we’ll be heading to Alaska for my parents’ anniversary celebration. I’m sure that will definitely make my favorite list by the end of the season.
